"This trio series was inspired by my grandfather [Papa], a classic southern man with a grainy drawl. He had timeless hobbies like whittling wood and collecting antiques, and old-fashioned preferences like a cowboy stache and lizard-skin boots. With his Stetson hats (pictured behind the paintings), working hands, and Skol rings in his Levis, Papa was an icon of a man.

He was certainly considered a regulator - simply because of the respect his presence commanded - but my grandmother [Nannie] was The Law. 'Listen here, Buster...' I can hear her calling from the kitchen. As I share in my Sister Series, I grew up with strong-willed women in my family - none quite as much as her.
