San Clemente, California, is a favorite place of mine. This nugget of Orange County is far enough from San Diego and Los Angeles that few people venture there, and even fewer live there (68k residents to L.A.'s 3.8M). The inconvenience of its location makes San Clemente a haven for skilled surfers wanting to avoid touristy breaks, not-to-mention those with enough lifestyle independence to invest in California's coastal sweet spot."
